About the role, Your Impact

This position will focus on water resources, natural resources, ecology, and other municipal services in Illinois and Wisconsin, track specific opportunities, research, develop, and maintain relationships with key contacts and some key client contacts, attend information sessions and conferences and participate with State Business Development meetings. The Water Resources Business Development Manager will work closely with individual client managers and Water Resources group department managers to leverage respective practice and leverage client manager relationships and monitor industry trends to develop business for the water resources practice.

What your day-to-day will look like

  • Support the Village of Algonquin by participating in natural resources design review, performing inspection on public and private construction as needed, general administration tasks and grant applications assistance.
  • Find and fulfill similar billable arrangements (like that in Algonquin) with other clients in Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin.
  • Represent B&W at industry meetings, conferences, and client events. Coordinate others attending events within your practice.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities within your practice. Engage prospective clients, understand clients’ goals, needs, and issues, and maintain productive relationships. Research and share future opportunities.
  • Assist the client managers/technical staff with business development and marketing opportunities in your practice. Participate in the GO/ NO GO decision on new pursuits.
  • Assist with the formal pursuit process. Help with pursuit strategy, help prepare project-specific understandings/approaches, and participate in proposal interviews.
  • Work closely with individual client managers and educate client managers of their respective practice and leverage client manager relationships to develop business for their practice.
  • Make frequent client contact with the clients working with your practice, respond directly to client requests when appropriate and forward requests to responsible managers as needed. This may include occasional travel within Illinois and Wisconsin.
  • Monitor industry trends and relevant client outreach initiatives for your business practice.
  • Collaborate with practice managers and state business development managers on professional organization plan and facilitate participation by staff.
  • Collaborate with business development VP and marketing department on strategy, social media, events, and corporate reports.
  • Collaborate with asset management team to strategize on approach, develop product, and sell asset management services.

Education/Certification Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in civil engineering, public administration, Science, or other related field
  • Industry related certifications are a plus (e.g. Arborist, Floodplain Manager, Wetland Specialist, etc…)

Must-haves, what you will bring

  • 20+ years' experience working for municipal governments.
  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to explain technical issues to non-technical municipal staff, officials and residents.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with developers, designers, and outside permit agencies.
  • Ability to work with local government staff and officials.
  • Knowledge and experience with stormwater management, ecological systems, and municipal infrastructure.
  • Prior experience developing grants or municipal funding applications is desired.
  • Ability to travel throughout Northeastern Illinois and Southeastern Wisconsin (own transportation).

Compensation The pay range for this role is $120,640-$135,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, and certifications.
