SALARY: $99,840 - $120,640 (Based on Qualifications and Experience)

POSITION LOCATION: Katy, Texas or North Houston, Texas (Hybrid work from home/in-office schedule available)

We are hiring a talented, licensed Landscape Architect Assistant Department Manager in a leadership role within our Community and Urban Planning Practice. This person will provide technical excellence, unrivaled client care, and employee training and development. This is an entrepreneurial opportunity to lead and grow a Landscape Architecture capability throughout the Baxter and Woodman constellation of offices.

The ideal candidate will have existing client relationships and a portfolio of relevant projects that can be leveraged for company growth. We anticipate the candidate will maintain a hybrid home-office work environment and routine in-person meetings with staff in our Katy, Texas office.

The candidate will be responsible for advancing team goals, monitoring key success factors, maintaining efficient internal communications, facilitating sub-consultant coordination, assuring quality control, managing project production (including construction documentation and specifications), and administering construction activities.

POSITION DUTIES:

The successful candidate must have strong capabilities in:

  • Maintaining quality control, standards development, planning and design process optimization, and technical delivery oversight and process development
  • Actively engaging in business development-related activities, including setting up and attending meetings, preparing statements of qualifications (SOQs) and proposals
  • Assisting in developing conceptual renderings for planning studies; providing technical expertise in analyzing data and preparing reports for addressing short-term and long-range projects and land use issues, while providing land development assistance services to clients.
  • A willingness and capacity to work in a design team environment, including directing the work of junior landscape architects, and delegating work as required.
  • Meeting with clients to prepare and validate the proposed scope of work and participate in negotiating contracts.
  • Preparing fee proposals for planning and landscape architectural work.
  • Ensuring that internal communication and coordination of design efforts occur.
  • Remaining within established schedule and budgetary parameters.
  • Making presentations to various audiences, including clients, public officials, and the public.
  • Helping to advance the planning profession by presenting relevant planning topics at national and state conferences and symposia and actively participating in professional organizations (e.g., National and Texas American Society of Landscape Architecture).

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A professional degree in landscape architecture, land planning, or related discipline is required – a master’s degree is preferred.
  • Landscape Architectural registration (RLA) within the State of Texas is required.
  • Must have at least eight (8) years of landscape architecture, and/or planning, land development industry experience, including experience related to master-planned communities.
  • Must have at least (5) years of technical and professional mentoring experience.
  • Strong knowledge of AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Revit.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), Adobe Acrobat Pro, and Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, Teams, and One Note).
  • Excellent technical writing, graphic, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to articulate and explain technical issues to non-technical municipal staff, officials, and the public.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with in-house staff, developers, designers, and public officials.
